Adding Oil Pressure Gage

@ATC Crazy
Application: 2024 7.3L
For nothing more than my own piece of mind, I want to do this. I have the iDash, but didn't realize you can't monitor oil pressure without adding other modules/senders.
I like what you did here, thinking along the same lines.
Can you give details? I'm assuming you installed a "T" where the factory oil switch is, then ran a line to the gage. That's the easy part. What I would like to know,
what size thread is on the housing? 1/8"NPT? Metric? A straight thread with "O-ring to seal? The rest I can figure out, thanks.
I like the AutoMeter Cobalt gage, will look good next to the Banks iDash

First, what I did was on a 6.2L, so this may not work on a 7.3L (as far as fittings used and thread sizes). I haven't researched or looked into this on the 7.3L yet, but I will since I have one now.
Second, take a look at this thread. If I do it again, I'm going with the Isspro gauge. I was very disappointed with the Autometer gauge (it buzzed and rattled like crazy when driving). I was also disappointed with the build quality of the Ortiz pod, even though it's the perfect concept and in the perfect location IMO.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...stom-pods.html

This is the fitting I used on my 6.2L. A 'T' fitting wouldn't work as it put the sensors too close to the oil port to thread them in. I used a 1/4" NPT 'Y' fitting. Since they are pipe threads, no O-ring was needed. The threads seal on themselves (I did use a good amount of thread tape)
Amazon Amazon

It was a bear to install because the location on the 6.2L is tough to get to, and I was using a 4-post lift so I could stand and work under my truck. I had to enlist the help of my friend that was there to help hold a wrench a couple times. I wouldn't have been able to do it on the ground.

My friend owns the truck now, but if I remember, I will get a picture of the finished product underneath next chance I get.

Awesome, thanks for the info.
I'm surprised with the Auto Gage issue. I've always had great luck with them.
I got to climb undermine and have a look see.

I have the iDash, suction cup mount, still waiting on Banks to release the A-pillar for MY 23+. They keep telling me it's coming.
I might just bite the bullet and buy the Banks add on sender and module and use the iDash as I originally thought I could. More money, yes, but in the long run,
less BS. Plus I can always add 3 more senders in the future. Rear end temp comes to mind.

i like the banks setup as well

what would also be useful is some type of audio alarm as the pressure falls below minimum …which might be hard to do since pressure changes with speed….the oem setup won’t thro a cel until it’s too late.

My GF has no problem spending my money, not you too!

Well this in itself is a good reason to go the Banks route. I'm would think a minimum psi alarm setting would trigger an alarm just in case you lost oil pressure all together.
Banks lists a few different senders, I'm thinking 0-100psi. Does anyone see a reason to order the 0-150psi instead? Don't think the 7.3L would produce more that 100psi of oil pressure. The smaller the range, typically the more accurate the reading are.

I m going with banks senders some day. Have the deringer, pedal monster, and idash.

i blew an engine bay fuel filter a few months ago, filter had less then 3k miles on it. Stranded on the side of the road a passer by gave me a ride to. It a filter and brought me back.

so now I carry extra filters

the engine bay 6.7 fuel filter has a bad rap on center top cracks. Ford came out with a new design recently with a by pass valve…letting unfiltered fuel into your injectors.

so my goal would be to get the banks setup with 4 senders. 1 before the secondary fuel filter and one after. This way I can tell if the secondary fuel filter is getting clogged. Simple bacteria in diesel will clog the filter.

then I would use 1 sender before my oil by pass to monitor when the oil by pass fills up.

the last sender would go where the oil pressure switch is..on a t fitting..keeping the stock switch. I need the last one to monitor startup oil pressure…I plan to put in a 12v pump that primes the engine oil passage. Turn on with ignition on and shut off a some moderate psi like 10 or 20. One way check valve so the normal oil pressure does not reverse spin the 12v pump.

yes…I have too much time on my hands.

All of your points and reasons are definitely valid. I would much rather know than not.
Mine is the 7.3L gas, so I don't need all of the monitoring that you can use or need for a diesel. I have the iDash, and Pedal Monster. Both great products.
But one of the main reasons I got the iDash was to monitor actual oil pressure in psi and not a low/high condition. Then to find out the factory gage doesn't even do that, it only tells if you have oil pressure.

the factory setup is a switch that comes on a 5 or 10 psi.

Found this out after my iDash purchase. But no regrets buying it.

I used a similar setup on my 2018 SD, PSD for monitoring oil pressure. Only pics I have are for my 4.0L Tacoma.
This adaptor fits between the engine block and oil filter - they are available for 7.3L - metric threaded filters. 4 ports are available. I used electrical senders for oil pressure and oil temp. Plug the extra ports. You use could use a mechanical gauge - just run pressure tube into the cabin to the gauge. On my todo list

Adaptor mounted to engine - Use loctite on threaded adaptor screw mounting adaptor to engine

Gauges mounted into the console

Most engine oil systems will top out around 80psi. My 6.2 would hit 78psi on cold winter start-ups.
