Truck came with carpet kick panel covers. They wouldn’t stick on with adhesive so I applied more, they stuck for a day or two and fell offf. I took them off, removed all of the adhesive on both the carpet pieces and painted metal kick panels. Reapplied new spray adhesive (3M), waited until tacked up, reinstalled them and clamped and braced them in place. They stayed on for a week and ahave fallen off again. Truck is in Florida so pretty hot and humid but no reason they shouldn’t stay in place?
Whats the next best way to install them? Maybe a little silicone sealant on them? Window adhesive? Seam sealer? Mortar? Grout? Duct tape? Crazy glue? I’m tired of redoing these things. Thanks for the help!
3M spray adhesive is the LAST thing to use inside a cab, (yes I have had personal failures using it and I followed the directions to a T). Do not use it on a headliner vinyl either. The velcro will hold for a bit, then the heat will make the adhesive on the velcro come loose and you are back to square 1.
F26... but if you ever have to take the carpet off it will not come off without destroying the carpet. You almost have to use a putty knife that heats up to cut thru that stuff once set up. https://www.acehardware.com/departme...B&gclsrc=aw.ds
You just want a adhesive that does not (off gas's) stinks when used in a heated environment. Like a truck cab in the sun. Maybe check out Eastwood adheasive products. https://www.eastwood.com/search/?q=adheasive
When / if I put carpet on my kick panels, I'll use the exact same industrial / commercial carpeting I used on my floors, it is virtually indestructible, and the base is rubber that is near 3/16" or 1/4" thick, that was vulcanized with carpet imbedded, was from a plant here locally, came in 2 foot squares, "Georgia Bonded Fibers" was the company. I'll hang it using just a few, not many, stainless steel counter sunk screws with those stainless steel counter sunk looking finishing washers. It has a variegated pattern, matches well no matter how joined but looks best if the arrows on back are pointed the same way..
You might use an aluminum strip at top with a couple or three screws? Then the strip acts like a washer, but for the whole length. I don't know how the backing is made on yours, some will let just washers pull through in time. I'm gonna guess that you may have pieces of backing glued to the kick panels.
I love this stuff, I got a stack of it in several basic colors 25-30 years ago, it is great to just throw on the ground to lay on or place knees if working, and then just pressure wash and let dry. I've even cleaned spilled oil off. These are unused that I used in my truck. Got some with gold, black, blue, dark green, and this dark red looking theme.
