E99 FPR differences

Hey fellas, I did high pressure oil lines recently and I removed the fuel bowl to make things a little easier. Rebuilt fuel bowl with new orings and such as mine were in rough shape.

While I was in there I found my FPR was freakin’ hammered so I ordered a new one from a reputable dealer but put the truck back together in the meantime because it’s my DD.

I noticed two things. 1. The seat and poppet are a little different shape than my current E99 seat and poppet. 2. The poppet does NOT have the tiny hole in the end of it.

I know pics would go a long way (I don’t have any of the original E99 stuff it’s in the truck at the moment) but hopefully you guys have seen this before? Should I be worried or just run it? I’ve heard the little hole will help bleed pressure off but I don’t know much about that or if it’s even important.

Thanks for any help I appreciate it,

Andrew

My OEM also had the tiny bleed hole. I think it is to help bleed air in operation and fuel pressure once turned off.

I noticed the rebuild kits online don't have that hole. No doubt to keep costs down, prolly a precise diameter hole. I'd keep the OEM. Or upgrade to an FRx.

I read that that's a 6.0 deal (no bleed hole), and that they were making their way into kits for 7.3. Mostly in knock off kits from not so reputable vendors. Per RiffRaff site.

Apparently it can lead to over pressurized fuel? No bueno.

Do you monitor fuel pressure?

I rebuilt my fuel bowl awhile ago, but didn't do FPR, wish I had.

Did you do housing as well or stick with stock?

Thanks fellas, I wonder if I accidentally received a 6.0 poppet then? My stock poppet is in rough shape and the spring is most likely the original.

I’ve got the diesel orings FPR billet housing that I plan to swap out. What color spring should I run? I don’t want to stress the fuel pump too much should I even be co concerned about that?

Thanks for any help guy I appreciate it!

Oh dang I missed the part where you asked if I monitor fuel pressure. I do not/have not at the moment. I would really like a fuel pressure gauge on the pillar I really think my in-tank screens are giving me fits but that’s another story lol.

I'd use the middle spring. I always recommend a fuel pressure gauge for these trucks. It's boring 99% of the time but when the truck runs poorly it cuts diagnosis in half.

If the Diesel O Rings FPR is like the FRx it's pretty easy to assemble. On the OEM FPR it's too easy to get the spring cocked on assembly and end up with very high pressure.

Thanks for the help. I’m gonna install the spring and housing this Friday if all goes well. Might just reuse my poppet I’m thinking. I’ll get some pics together to show the differences
