i have a 69 429 with a 4u crank, but i have d3ve heads!
first of all i have a low budget ( grumpy wife and 2 kids)
i want to get some info, 1; can the smog bump be ground out with ease (not getting into any water jackets?)(and is it worth it) 2; is the 1969 timing chain 4 deg. advanced? (over the 73) & 3; what is the highest compression pistion i can run on pump fuel
1. The smog bump can be removed, with ease(?) its a lot of work but yes its worth doing. 2. 1969 timing is strait up. 3. Compression and pump fuel depends on many factors, quality of fuel, proper timing and tune, air temp., iron or aluminum heads, cam timing and overlap, etc. Normally, 9-1 on regular (87), 10-1 on premium (92-93) is a good rule of thumb.
thanks nathan .i am going to put this 429 in my 69 fast back
i have never built a ford engine but i was wanting an in-put on the 429 ... recomend any good overhaul books on it????
Tom Monroe's 'How to Rebuild your Ford V8 351C, 351M, 400, 429 and 460' is the best I've found. HP Books, I believe its available here in the Motor Haven section.
