Had Ford vehicles all my life. After Mathew McParlane's (Ford Vehicle Programs, Dearborn, MI) threats and abuse, I will never drive another Ford again. My company vehicles are mostly switched out of Ford as well as friends and neighbors after reading his emails.
Ford's no better or worse than any other manufacturer/vendor/dealership. I've had repair and service issue with the two dealerships closest to me. I no longer bring work to them unless it's a warranty issue.
Sure Ford & the industry are most likely under tremendous strain with these passing years of total economic hell.

I would guess a small neighborly shop would be a great choice on normal stuff. Warranty, well that's another matter.
I quit buying GM products in the Early 80's because it was building crap. I have nothing but kind words for The Fords
I have owned and driven. Each over 10 years. Most likely Well over 500,000 miles with no warranty issues at all.
I did have to drain the gasoline out of my Spark retarding distributor diaphragm of the 70's, thought that was so crazy.
Maybe Ford built their Edsel's. But GM built their Malibu Junk of the 80 also. Toyota built their Rust Buckets of the 80's, 90's, 2000's.
I know there are maintenance shops they intentionally screw peoples dreams. Maybe its luck of staying away that's best.
