Slipping Clutch

I’m hoping someone can help me here.

I have a 88 F250 – 302 and had a new heavy duty clutch installed in 97 when the truck had 140,000 miles. I only use this truck for dump runs and plowing my driveway. Another words this clutch was hardly used. Since then, I put on less then 10,000miles.

Last winter I notice my clutch pedal was low. About 2 inchs from the floor but the clutch grabbed with no problems.

I check the fluid and it was low. I filled to top but the pedal was still low. I replace the Clutch master cylinder over this past weekend, bled the system and all was fine with the pedal. Now I noticed that the clutch grabbed almost to the top. Anyway, I went for a spin and now clutch is slipping in every gear. You have to drive slow in 1 or 2nd gear just to make it back.

Before I replaced the clutch MC, even though the pedal was low, the clutch grab with no problems. Don’t know what happened here.

I didn’t need to reset the spline because the MC rod aligned to the pin. It might have been a ¼ inch off but thought it was OK. I did everything the Haynes manusl described.

Why all of a sudden is my clutch slipping in all gears. Doesn’t make sense. Could it be I need to replace my clutch ? I hope someone can give me some advice here so I can get an idea what to do next.

Thanks for your time in advance and I’m looking forward to your advice.

Change the lever. 1/4" is 1/4" too much.

I tried getting the lever off with now luck. I really don't see a difference with the lever being off very very little. The new MC rod fits almost perfect on the existing lever.

If I don't put in the clutch while going into a gear, it will grind. When I put in the clutch pedal, all 5 gears go in with no problem. It's when I release the clutch pedal, it seems like the clutch is slipping bad. With the pedal all the way up, the engine will still idle. If I rev it will grab.

I'm thinking maybe it's the internal slave cylinder or somehow fluid go into the housing on to the clutch plate and making it slip.

I tried bleeding again but still the same. Again, If i rev the engine then the clutch will grab but not fully.

I give up.. If anyone has other suggestions, that would be great.
Oh well. Time to bring into the shop..

thanks,

Sounds like a bad press plate. Don't know if the slave would axt like that. I think you know what comes next, you have to pull the trans and have a look.

That's the bad part..you have to pull it to see anything. I think when you get it apart you will see something though. Worn disc or leaking slave, if not bad PP.
