I was under the impression that higher level trims came with different mirror caps. Some getting chrome caps and I believe at least the Limited came with painted body-color matched caps. Is this no longer the case?
Looking over the 2024 Order Guide looks like they removed the body paint mirror caps. Seems like only the Lariat gets the Ebony ones on the BAP (Black Appearance Package).
Ford snuck in a little unannounced change for 2024. The trims that used to have paint matched mirror caps now have black caps. I did think it was black paint, is it not? They use the wording "black skull caps" in the order guide.

I'm picking this up later today, and from the photo it appears not to be paint-matched, which made me ask my question. The online build tool only shows chrome, but I can't tell what the photo above shows...
Limited and Platinum are showing Chrome caps as standard.
Lariat/King Ranch list black caps as standard. I'd suspect these will be textured on the surface.
I'd suspect the Lariat/KR mirrors can have the covers swapped out as they call them caps. As Lariat and KR can have the Chrome Package, along with the Lariat alone getting the BAP (Black Appearance Package) Ebony mirror caps.
So that leaves one to find the part numbers for the PTM (Paint-to-match) caps, getting them done to body color or whatever, and installing them. I doubt the mirrors have changed a whole lot since the 2020 (???) model year.

Chrome, reflecting the overhead or area around it.

My truck, a 2024 Lariat with BAP came with color matched gloss caps. Clearly seen in this pic.
Haha, well sure, color matched because the truck is black. A red lariat with BAP would have those same black caps. I think the black pkg has always come with black painted mirror caps.
As the OP mentioned, the Limited used to have color matched mirror caps, now it looks to come with chrome. The Lariat also used to have color matched mirror caps, now they are black.
As one who despises chrome, I wish all the caps were black - I'm not a fan of body-matched unless the ENTIRE mirror is body-matched. And on a SD or any HD truck I think it would look a little goofy.
