Pre ordering a new truck for my landscaping company and trying to decide on rear for it.
Engine will be the 6.8. This will be primarily used for towing a landscape trailer and plowing in the winter. Don’t care about fuel mileage.
specs it will be Standard cab 8’ bed. Single rear wheel
I think with the 10 speed you cannot go wrong either way. It is really only a 10% difference anyway.
I think if you don't care about saving fuel the 4.30 is a clear choice. There isn't any reason not to use them.
I haul a vnose 101x12 ft snowmachine trailer around as well as a truck camper. 3.73's work good with the 10 speed. If I was hauling fulltime on the interstate and everywhere a very large say firth wheel I would opt for 4.30s.

That use definitely calls for 4.30's, and your mileage won't suffer, if anything the 4.30 gears will net better mpg's in that working environment.
4.30= more leverage = easier work for the motor under any load.
4.30 if mileage isn't a concern. Low end grunt for plowing.
I just returned from a 2500 mile round trip vacation with my truck. I notice next to zero difference in mileage on my first 4.30 after several 3.73 trucks. Hauling pretty much the same trailer, motorcycles, tools, luggage, etc.
If anything it might have been .5 or so better. No scientific experiments or math was done. Just going by what the trip computer on the truck indicated. Maybe minor differences in the 10 speed transmissions in the different model years? I can only guess at this point.
