I don't know why you'd think they'd a be a rust attractant? They've likely been there for over 60 years and don't appear to have caused a significant problem. It's unlikely that will change anytime soon. Accessories on a big truck like that add a cool factor not everyone can have, imho. If it were me, I'd keep them.
