2024 - camera video quality

Enjoying my 2024 F250 Lariat but I will say that I am rather disappointed at the low quality video quality from the included cameras. It truly looks like Ford has integrated the cheapest possible, early 2000's webcam-grade cameras into these trucks. Having family members with Toyota and Kia vehicles, I have grown accustomed to the crisp, clean video quality that those cameras provide. However, one positive feature of the Ford camera system, which is not the case for other manufacturer's cameras, is the ability to keep certain camera feeds active while driving at full road speeds.

I agree 100%...my wife has a 2023 Nissan Rogue, the camera images are very crisp and clear. Her SUV was $36,000 and my 2024 F350 CCSB was $70,000. Her display screen looks like an led TV! I do like my truck though!

Some day Big Blue may hear the complaints about the SD cameras but seeing how it has been an issue for quite a few years now I wouldn't expect them to do anything about them. People are still buying the trucks because the quality of the cameras don't drive sales or lack of.

Low quality cameras are cheaper and help Ford pass the savings on to their overlords Vangaurd Group, Blackrock and State Street. 56% of Ford shares are owned by institutions there is little hope getting Ford to change the way they do anything.

Every single model year since 2017 has had issues with the rear cameras. Ford hasn't improved yet.

I agree with the consensus. They’re universally not fantastic. The one that sucks more than the rest for me is the bed view camera. It seems like actively spent less on that one than the already not expensive ones everywhere else.

That said, I’ve seen some worse camera systems and I wonder if some resolution was sacrificed for the sake of wider angles. I can see what I need to in the views, and it’s easy to access the different views… so that’s worth a lot to me.

I had the misfortune of renting a Nissan Armada a month ago, and the Super Duty looks like 8k in comparison. The GM twins, though, have some really nice cameras, I must admit. I never sat in a Ram to compare, but I did have a short experience in a Jeep that had okay cameras.

One thing that is sometimes lost in the discussion is that higher resolutions affects graininess at night without spending exponentially more money. Not to say they couldn’t get something better, but I haven’t had much in the way of problems at night so far. *shrug*

My rear camera improved a bit once the recall was done, it was getting really blurry and hard to see much out the back.
Recently I was in an Uber, I think a Nissan, the driver could drive down the road, 30-40mph, and could flip his camera to the rear and it worked fine. Why does Ford not allow this same view when at speed? Especially the bed camera so one could check on things in the bed while driving, urgh!

What year is your truck? The mention of recall makes me think 17-19. The newer trucks do have the option to view the rear at speed.

My 24 Lariat has a great rear camera, way better than the 16 I traded in. My wife’s 24 Edge also has a better camera than the 15 she traded in.

My 2022 CHMSL camera is supposed to be viewable at any speed but the button is INOP half the time. When I first purchased the truck I could flip on my nose camera up to 6mph and it went away but that feature disappeared with some OTA update of Sync3. I went to the dealer and they claimed they replaced something behind the dash under a recall and my camera worked in their parking lot. The next day it acted just like it did before they "worked on it". They could have done nothing and claimed to Ford that they did.

The pre 2020s couldn't view the cameras at speed unless you purchase some aftermarket part that goes behind the screen.

Mine is a 2019 F350 Lariat 6.7. I had the recall performed earlier this year however still can’t drive at speed with any camera working.

The 17-19's have never been able to view the cameras at speed. The recall is unrelated to that. You would have to purchase an aftermarket product to make that possible.

I would say my 2021 Ram was like 1080P vs my 2024 Ford 480P at best. I do really like the 360 camera and function, just the picture quality is lacking.

The camera on my 2019 is crisp and sharp. No recall has been done.

Maybe subjective, have you compared it to the quality found in other vehicles? The front and rear cameras on my '19 both have the haziness caused by UV degradation that the recall addresses. But before they hazed up from the sun, the picture quality still never was as sharp or defined as in my friends 2015 Ram.
