The eclipse was a bust here. We were well away from the total eclipse band, but still were expecting to see about 75 percent coverage of the sun. Due to heavy cloud cover, this afternoon was just another dreary day. A friend about 20 miles away saw a few glimpses of the eclipse through the clouds, but we saw nothing. If we made a big trip and were staying in an expensive motel room tonight, I'd be upset with how the long anticipated day of the big eclipse played out.
I was surprised how when just a sliver of the sun was showing, it was light out like on a cloudy day. It wasn’t until it was totally covered that it turned dark.
Where we are camping we have no electric and have to walk to the showers. But with 2 100 watt solar panels we were good with battery power. For 4 nights and 5 days, it was $20.00 total.
