Originally purchased the 2016 F350 to pull a 33’ RV travel trailer. Most of our travel is through mountainous terrain in British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest. Upgraded to the new truck because the gas pot labored pulling the 10,000 lb trailer up through the mountain passes. The 6-speed automatic transmission would continuously cycle between the lowest gear ranges. Fixing the transmission in first gear had the engine racing just below red line, and switching to 2nd gear had the engine lugging. Top speed pulling the hill was less than 20 MPH.
The truck also had terrible fuel mileage; the same fuel mileage running unloaded or fully loaded. Real life fuel mileage was a hard 21KM/100 L (11.2 US MPG). With the upgrade my fuel mileage, unloaded, is now 13.5 Km / 100 L (17.4 US MPG).
The 2016 had a bumpy ride when unloaded but smooth when loaded. The new truck ride is almost as smooth as my wife’s luxury car.
So far, I am very pleased with the truck.
A diesel has great torque, slow down and arrive there is a good plan.
You live in a beautiful area of the world, why worry and just go a day early.

I am a very cautious driver when pulling the trailer as I do not tow anything that heavy on a regular basis. So for me it is typically slow and easy.
I have already had a good scare when pulling the trailer down a steep hill at 50 MPH. The trailer started to sway violently. It threw the truck back and forth across three lanes. I backed off the gas, held the wheel straight, and manually feathered the trailer brakes to get the trailer under control. Once control was regained, I dropped my speed down to 40 MPH, moved to the far right lane, put on the four ways, and ignored the horns, glares, and gestures when upset people whizzed by me (the highway speed limit was 70 MPH)., Luckily no damage to anything except my shorts. That was corrected at the next rest stop.
My main goal is to keep it safely in my lane without suddenly meeting new people and arrive alive.
