instrument cluster interchangeability
my neighbor has a 2006 F150 xl 4.2 auto plain jane work truck with a bad instrument cluster.
we have access to a 2008 XL 4.2 auto plain jane work truck with blown trans and good cluster.
are the clusters interchangeable on these trucks?

Not directly. 2006 won’t have TPMS, and the car-part interchange shows it as a one-off year. EBay shows “07-08”
To be fair, TPMS told me nothing in my ‘08 SCrew, so I don’t know the stumbling blocks aside from that. My hunch is that it’s just TPMS and I doubt that would keep the truck from firing up.
