Pretty sure it's a normal amount of play but I shook the truck side to side and noticed a noise so I took off the wheel for further inspection. Brake drum slid right off with no fuss...which I have never had happen but I don't know if that's necessarily a bad thing. Is all this normal? I am not sure if the play is something to be concerned about or not. I'm probably overthinking it but figured I'd double check. Thank you for your time.
Yeah that's pretty normal, the C-clips that hold the axle in have some play. Just a word of caution though, too much and it'll fall apart. The C-clips will fall out and then nothing retains the axle.
While not urgent I'd start thinking about taking off the diff cover to at least do an inspection and replace the oil. While there consider replacing the cross-pin, C-clips, and if it has a posi the clutches. Those are the parts that wear and cause that play.
I appreciate the responses. I plan on servicing the diff sometime this springs so I will add that to the list. How hard is it to replace those clips? and how much are they to replace? The rear end needs some TLC so when I finally get the time to do rear brakes I think I might as well go a little further and replace seals as well.

Been a long time since I've looked for those parts, so IDK what it takes to get them these days. Not hard at all to replace though, hardest part is the cross pin bolt. There's a bolt that retains the cross pin and has a small wrench head. Round that head off and you're in trouble, so make sure you have a good 6 point wrench/socket for it. But once that bolt is out the rest comes apart really easy, slide out the cross pin, push in the axles, the C-clips fall right out, then pull the axles out. From there seals pry right out. Tap in new seals and reassemble with any new parts.
That noise can be lessened by an O ring in the C clip groove
Most had the O ring from the factory
Trucks not so much
With the O ring in there, the clearance is still there, it just knocks or clanks less
