New ccv filter

Hello, it is time for me to replace my ccv filter on my ‘17 F250 SD 6.7L.
I know that Ford has improved (?) the filter into a cassette assembly that is now replaced with a new cassette. Is this new assembly recommended for my ‘17 engine?

I have not seen that yet. Can you post a link where I can read more about this?

I would expect that your '17 250 has the sealed CCV box. That is a filterless box. There have been changes over the years to the filterless box but a replaceable cassette I'm not familiar with.

my 19 has the filter element that needs periodic replacement.

I think they went back and fourth as to which have and which dont

I don't think that is what the OP is talking about. Also, yours is a 450, the DRW trucks were the trucks that most often had the filter type CCV. So no surprise there. Nearly all SRW 250/350 have the filterless box. I have not seen a single F-250 with the filter type, although not impossible.

I'm interested to hear what he is talking about in regards to a replaceable "cassette ".

There are threads on this in the 6.7 section. Also tons of videos on YouTube about this. Here is one of them:

Does that answer what the OP is asking about? That is just abother variant of the filterless CCV box. There are at least 4 different versions of filterless CCV that I'm aware of, including the one I'm the video. At least for me, it doesn't explain what the OP meant by, "...cassette assembly that is now replaced with a new cassette". Maybe you can elaborate or define cassette?

Yea, I guess I didn’t! I assume by cassette the OP is referring to removable filter but now that I look closer I see he has a 17 that should have come with the non serviceable version.

Is the new smaller CCV more likely to clog up and increase internal pressure?

There are youtube videos by sellers who sell competing products and in those videos they represent the new slimmer filter as not being any better than the previous ford oem ccv filters or not any better than what they sell.

I looked at these videos and dont agree with the conclusions of the producers of the competing products.

my experience after replacing the filter based CCV with the newer one is that the newer one was easier to install and seems to be functioning great.

what I dont like about the competing products is that they dont have the shutoff valve that the oem one has...ford must have a reason for installing the shut off valve in the ccv.

one thing I did notice is that with the newer ccv filter I am getting less fuel dilution...dont know why the newer style CCV does that.

So a year ago I removed the stock non-serviceable CCV box from my 2019 as I was nearing 100,000 miles. I installed the 2023+ updated version. Within a few months I developed two oil leaks. One is at the CCV box itself where the tube runs into the box. Something is leaking there on the bottom side. Maybe the tube split? Maybe that pressure relief diaphram is leaking? I don't know. The other oil leak that developed is the dreaded upper oil pan leak. My truck had been bone dry from 40k miles until 100k miles after having that upper oil pan leak repaired. Just a few months after changing the CCV box it starts leaking again? That could have nothing to do with the new CCV box at all....but it sure is fishy and suspicious.

So, my truck is going to the shop this week to hopefully get the upper oil pan resealed again under warranty and when I get the truck back I have a CCV delete kit waiting at home. I'm getting rid of this problem permanently.

Anyone still sell the EF18A? That's what my truck has and came with factory. If the new smaller style is causing upper oil pan leaks, I don't want to use it.

If you are referring to the diaphragm disc on the side of the oem ccv filter housing.......that valve is supposed to close off the ccv circuit under heavy boost, otherwise the turbo will suck in too much vapor/oil. Let off the boost and the valve reopens to continue its job. The only way to properly eliminate any crankcase pressure build up in the future is it to reroute it. This has been discussed over and over in the past , yet people will doctor up their own concoction to end this cycle...........until sooner or later the system will back up and fail allowing pressure to build and blow seals as it remains a "closed loop". The only reason the ccv system exists is because of the EPA clean air act. Has nothing to do with "helping your engine" or lubing the turbo charger.

Did you just order the 2023+ version or is the 2019 version now the same as the 2023 version?
