Hi. After much debate - and several test-drives, my hubby and I have changed our minds and decided to get the V-10 instead of the PSD. We don't do much heavy trailering and much of its use will be soccer mom type stuff. I know you drive the V-10. It's hard to jusify the extra up-front $ for the diesel.I would appreciate any advice or info you could share about this engine. My hubby is a little hesitant about it since it is a fairly new engine for Ford. Anyway, I appreciate your imput - Beth

Excellent choice! The PSD is an awesome engine when used as directed and to it's full extent

You know the V10 is coming up on it's 5th birthday! It is pretty much the standard engine in most C-class motorhomes. It is strong and as you'll see quite efficient. Earlier engines had exhaust flutter problems. Your's (2002 right?) should not experience any of that. Do the basic maint stuff and she'll run fine for you. You and your husband should peruse the V10 forum down the page. Not too many people b*tching about this engine.
I, too, was looking for a PSD but when it can right down to it, the V10 more than fit the bill. Plus my wife (when I let her drive it) doesn't have to go to a truck stop with 4 kids in it to get fuel. It also prevented me from spending the kids college money on all the upgrades I would have done. Although, Whipple does makes a supercharger for the V10....uh oh here comes the wife...check out the V10 forum!!
BTW, congrats on your new truck!! When do you get it?
Beth, while most of us think of the internet as chatting with friends, keep in mind that we are not neighbors. So a word about where & how you use it will help lots of us fine tune our advice. I live in congested South Florida suburbia, and tow a TT as often as we can, so the V10 2wd suits us fine. Diesel here costs way more than regular gas. But I have traveled our USA and understand that there are many mountain states where the reverse is true, AND they DO need 4WD. I do NOT use our Ex for daily "stop at every light" commuting and would be hesitant to recommend it for that. Our Ex has not been back to the dealer since we bought it. Just oil changes, lube & tire rotation in 16k miles, 8k of it out to Yellowstone with a trailer. The V10 in a heavy vehicle like this is no hot rod, but neither is it heavily worked. The Excursion comes with all top of the line cooling, etc, & I for one have no reservations about its durability.
Hey the V-10 is a good choice. I have an Explorer not an Excursion. I would love an Excusion though. The closest I get is an F-150 when I go to college which is the same length as an Excusion. Currently my V6<------Explorer gets 11.4 MPG every tank. People with Excusions get this with V-10s or better mileage. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your Excursion.
