I just installed 2 10" subwoofers in my 98 F150 (w/ 6 disc cd changer stock) and when i put the deck back in and turned on the music (w/o the subs or amp hooked up) my front two speakers were crackling (i switched them out with other speakers and they werent blown?) I went into best buy and talked to a certified installer and he said that deck cant handle it has anyone done this, is this true?
Ford4x4435 from what I heard about adding any type of extra equip. to the stock stereo that you would not get the quality sound and possible crackling out it. There is just something about the stock stereo's that won't accept after market new stuff. Bottom line need to match up a new CD player with new equipment. That's just what I heard from a few installers.Good luck
Can you explain exactly how you hooked things up? Your stock HU should work fine, but you should use it to run your stock speakers only. The amp should be hooked up using a low level converter to RCA outputs. You can get that at Walmart for about $15. I would recheck your connections and make sure something isn't loose of crossed wired. Hope that helps.
well i cant exactly tell you other than we did it by the bood spliced into the wires hooked up the converter saudered did everthing right i really dont know why it wouldnt work?!
Well, if everything is connected correctly, it should work. The only thing I can think of, is that maybe your HU outputs went bad? It happened on my brothers truck, it sounded like popping and crackling, checked everything and tracked it down to the HU outputs. Maybe its time to upgrade to a new stereo?!
Hey Ford4x4435,I added 2 10" subwoofer's to my 98,also a big MTX amp.I used my factory head unit and I also have a factory 6 disc changer and I have no problem's.No crackleing sound's that you mention.
