175 = 175 inch wheelbase

3 = Dark Red Metallic (Is this a two tone?)

C612 = C600 gas, 23,000 lbs GVWR

4A = Black vinyl, standard trim standard cab L/B bench
8 = Standard cab without sleeping compartment

RM
R = Fan clutch in sound pkg. or engine with California emissions (MPC says 1978 only)(a character here is either an auxilliary transmission, or some oddity like the emissions etc)
M = Clark model 285V five speed direct transmission

53M
53 = Rockwell (Timken) model H-170 single speed rear axle, 17,500 lbs capacity, 6.14 ratio.
(Given the late production and 1978 code above, don't be surprised to find an H-172, same capacity with a 6.17 ratio)
M = Ford 7,000 lb capacity front axle with power steering

23000 = 23,000 lbs GVWR

71 = Los Angeles District Sales Office

Since it was a CA truck, it could be the emissions or the sound items. All of which could be different all these years later.

Thank you for decoding! Currently she is snowed in next to the barn. Very excited about putting it on the road again. Had been freshly rebuilt before being parked. Belonged to the local grocery store owner and was used to haul in store coolers..Thanks again Don Meadows Hessel Michigan
