94 F-350idi occasionally gets a sudden rush of fuel when cold starting it along with some occassional clacking noises during warm up mode. I recently change my low pressure fuel pump that went bad after 2 years probably from not driving it enough since I had a company truck. it sounds healthy once in normal mode. Can anyone suggest what could cause this?

You have an airleak in your fuel system thats starving the engine of fuel. The idle governor tries to increase the RPM as the engine is purging an airbubble, and then as air bubble passes, the fresh fuel causes the engine to surge. After a minute or two, the air is purged out of the system and it'll run smooth again. Look for wet spots on your fuel components like your fuel filter and the injector return caps.
Thanks for the help.. I was able to correct the fuel pump steel line connection as well as a new location by an injector. started it fine. and acually ran better.. again appreciate the response!!
