After much struggle to replace the tensioner assembly to fix my squeak, I've only succeeded in amplifying the squeak! I am now hoping that it is the little wheel standing alone to the
right of the AC. It does have a little play to it. What is that part called? I can't seem to ascertain that for some reason.
What he said, also it shouldn't really have a little bit of play. With the belt off you should be able to spin the pulley with 1 finger and it spin silently for several revolutions.
Thank yall. It has just the slightest bit of play. I don't think I wasted anything replacing the tensioner assembly because I'm pretty sure it was factory. I should be damn sure since I've owned the truck since 02 with 22k on it. I never imagined I would put 300 more K on it! Guess I will order that one. Looks easy enough. The other ones would not be.
I will take a picture and I have a good recent belt on there with the good upper hose that makes sense!
I have ordered the Motorcraft idler pulley which should arrive today. I always pay twice for motorcraft parts just to make sure. Hopefully this does it as I will
have to bring it to Bubba's Diesel if not and they are not the outfit they once were. I just don't feel confident to change out all the other wheels and the entire cooling system was changed out a couple years ago in Montrose, CO.
If there's anything at all wrong with your rig, Monarch Pass towing a fifth wheel will discover it for you.
That's for sure! But its a pretty recent Motorcraft belt that shows no wear at all. I do think that the truck is actually running better with the new tensioner which may be my imagination I suppose. We'll see what happens with the new idler pulley.
Hopefully this does it as I will have to bring it to Bubba's Diesel if not and they are not the outfit they once were. I just don't feel confident to change out all the other wheels
All the other pulleys are driving an accessory or fan so if one of them is at fault then it will mean replacing an alternator or AC clutch. The alternator is cake on these engines. The AC clutch can put up a little fight sometimes, but only if you let it or you don't have a decent pair of snap ring pliers. There's the power steering pump in there but they usually whine when they start to go, not squeak. Now a water pump will/can squeak , but you said it's been replaced so it should be good. I may have mentioned it already but make sure the grooves in all the pulleys are clean out. I've seen crud packed in there cause noise.
And ordered the Gates belt which should be the same as the Motorcraft in there. Its always good to carry a spare belt. I was taught to carry all sorts of extra stuff up in Alaska and traveling the Alcan which I have done 12 times. 2 times with a fifth wheel which is nice but not recommended. Ah the good old days, when men were men and Canada was a relatively normal place. So if all this don't fix it its going to Bubba's Diesel in Sante Fe, TX.
