I can second the Diamondback for heavy duty bulletproof. Had one on my work truck, no issues, added weatherstripping around tailgate and hardly any leaks.
I have a LOMAX trifold on my F250, just got it (and the truck) so not a lot of experience yet, but no visible leaks after a couple of heavy rain weekends. I installed it by myself, and you can remove it by tripping a catch, no tools needed. Love it so far.
how easy is it to push those inital panels to open the cover? I'm looking at Peragon and i've watched some vids. I'm a lil worried that my short (5'10") stature, bad shoulder, is gonna be a show stopper.
any insight?
TIA
Zee
I'm also 5'10". It isn't a major issue. What I do when I need to open the top is I first unlock it, then push down a bit on the joint between the 2 panels closest to the cab. After that, the rest of the panels just take a gentle push.
Love how they hide away into the bed of the truck. Also have the lock so no one can open it.
while I ended up not getting the Paragon because I was worried about the lost space at the front of the bed when opening it all the way, I must say they have really good customer service. I asked a few questions, placed an order and then decided to get a hard roll up tonneau for the reasons above. They were responsive and understanding and ended it with something like, “it’s ok and we just want you to have what you need. “
also if I remember correctly (don’t quote me) there used to be a forum discount….. maybe. So if you go with a paragon ask them about that.
If you live around alot of trees with pine needles, go with a tri fold such as tonnopro hard folding or something similar. Soft covers pool water and retractable collects needles. I say tonnopro because they don't leak like most folding covers and the vinyl is one solid thick cover on top when closed.
I agree, a tonnorpo trifold has always served me well, I have been buying tonnopro for a while now and the maintenance I have done to it is minimal and they still keep water out very well. Plus I can remove it by myself in 5 minutes when I need the whole bed open.
A more heavy duty hard cover provides more security but by its nature it has more joints to dry and wear out, so leak is just a matter of when unless one regularly lubes the joints and seal up new openings as they appear, even then the weight of the panels put downward pressure constantly, creating new openings over time.
I have the RetraxPro MX on my 2019 F-350. Had a RetraxPro on both of my previous F-150's. I have never had any water in the bed area even after a no touch car wash.
