I am at the point of painting my frame and for the heck of it i thought I would ask ........if I was to do more boxing on my frame for strength and safety....beside what i have already done inside my mustang 11 where would i box. Keep in mind this is a driver with a mild 390 and 300 gears in the rear.stock rear suspention with leafs removed. Thanks Fellas and take a look in my gallery for the pics of my frame started in red!!!!!!
No comments on boxing. I doub't you need any more given you intended usage.
However, I gotta tell ya - that red on the frame just about burned out my retinas. Sure it is isn't called "World's Brightest Red". That colour may show all the way through your sheetmetal..
I looked at your pics and I believe that it has been suggested to box the IFS crossmember on the bottom outside edges. I will be boxing my rear frame near the axle but I had some damage and it needs doing.
Ferg ,, you old dog. That color they used to paint old boats is out and the hot red is in. Hell even at 33 I know that. When my 17 year old saw it he said it was "the shizzel "!!! What ever that means?? That will be the day he drives this bucket of bolts> DJ
HI DJ, I boxed my 56 frame from the front crossmember that the rad mounts on to just behind the front cab mount and from the front hanger for the rear spring to the rear hanger. I am still decideing on doing the center section. Ozzie
Well ozz, the reason I was asking was awhile back I read an article on the frame being able to twist for suspention reasons and that taking that twist out actually hurts more than helps. I have my truck to the frame and dont want to miss anything while Im here so I thought any good tip nows the time. Thanks Bud
Just my opinion but I don't think you ever box just for the sake of boxing. I reserve it for when I have modified a frame. I.E. notching for certain IFS, removal of factory crossmembers, C-channeling for axle flips. etc.
It does change the way the frame flexes. Overboxing wouldn't necessarily cause frame cracking, but it certainly could near the point where the boxing ends.
Hi DJ. 'fenders is right not boxing if you haven't modified the original frame. I boxed mine because of the Aerostar crossmember install and C-notching in the rear. I need to decide if boxing the center is needed to prevent a problem that may be caused from the front and rear sections that are boxed. I also don't have the crossmember that the bellhouseing was mounted on originally. Ozzie
