Wiring replacement
I beleive that they are made to accept both 6 and 12 volt systems, they you wouldnt need to update it later if you do decide to convert it. Wiring in these kits are super easy. A ******* can even do it
If you have big plans, the aftermarket kits like Painless would get you all ready.
If you are going to stay fairly stock, you will find the repro harnesss will go in faster- it all lays out so well lengthwise, wire colors fit the original diagrams and all. And they are cheaper.
I took my 55 (last of the 6V years, but a victim of a poorly done 12V conversion), and put in a '56 harness. It was about 95% ok with the 55 terminal layouts and I just worked from a '56 diagram. I did that becasue I favored the vinyl insulation of that year to the quaint rubber with fabric covering of the 53-55 6V.
I will ask the sparks guru's that will visit this thread (GEORGE!) to comment on whether there is any wire diameter drop from the early to '56 type and how important it might be. Thats because most 6V wires are thick buggers (the battery cables are the most noticiable) to keep voltage drops to a min.
