91 ranger start up problem
Pre-disposed issues:
Power steering has been leaking. Believe it’s the hose on the return line. Anyways, hasn’t been too much of a problem the last few months, just have to add some every couple of weeks. Also, not fully sure how to take hose off from, I guess the pressure line? end, not the pump end. Doesn't appear to be a bolt like on the supply hose line end.
The last couple days another issue has come up. Essentially, trying to start after 24 hours on some cold days, engine would not start. Definitely power present, just serpentine belt won’t turn fast enough, just moving at a very low speed. Even cutting the power, belt will still move on its own for a couple minutes, then finally stop.
Checked the power steering and was low, so filled it up. This time the car started right up and was fine, no problems, stop and started later in the day too.
This morning after all night no activity, same start up problem. Power steering was fine. This time, though I checked water/coolant levels and was low, both at radiator and reserve tank. So I filled these up. Again, then the truck started right up and I was on my way.
I’ll check the water/coolant again tomorrow and hopefully, the truck will start OK. I don’t believe there is any leaking in these lines. Now if fluid levels are fine, and same start up issue occurs, then it's time to take it in. Or does someone already know a bigger culprit?
It doesn’t seem to be before the alternator or the plugs, because even when it’s stuck at this low motion, it gets to that point immediately after turning the key. Not like when you’re trying several times to start a car and it won’t turn over.
Could an engine even start with no water/coolant?
