on my new truck the front license plate frame is pop-riveted in place
the normal way to get rid of them is to drill a hole in the center but i was hoping someone would have a trick that would keep the hole from getting any bigger.

The correct way to remove rivets is to drill only as deep as the head of the rivet and then punch the center through with a center punch. As always when working with a punch or chissel wear gloves and eye protection.
