Parts store got me the rear pump right away. Front pump apparently a problem. 1st and 2nd pumps too tall. 3rd and 4th Delphi pumps lost somewhere in transit. They ordered 2 hoping one would fit. Should have left front one in to get the truck moved out of the yard.
The Delphi pumps don't fit either. Parts store called Ford dealership with VIN number. Dealership says a possibility of 12 pumps for this truck, front tank. Possibility of removing pump from module and swapping it out. Is check valve in pump or top mount?
I see references to 3 different tanks based on wheelbase, cab type and whether or not it is a chassis-cab or standard pickup. Best bet is to measure the tank dimensions you have then compare to replacements.
Well, 6 fuel pumps later it runs. Still not sure how both pumps failed at once with all switches, relay and fuse intact. On to some body work. Wonder who would have repro hub caps for this?
Like this with plain chrome center, 16 inch. Everything I find is a set of 4.
Wonder what possessed Ford to mold these with 7 fake lug bolts? Never seen a 7 lug rim.

This is the rear pump, complete, fit right in, about $150. Came from local Auto Value parts store. All I could find was one possibility of rear tank, 18 gallon steel.
This is the front replacement. Had to do pump only, could not find complete unit. same source, about $80. Took a little force to get it off, could not get the tubes to fit all the way in the new pump. Took it to the parts store and 2 guys spent about 30 minutes getting it on. These guys are hard to beat, probably spent 4 to 6 hours finding me the correct pumps. This was a steel front tank, I am thinking the 16 gallon tank as all the complete pumps were too long. They called the local Ford dealer with VIN number and they said there was a possibility of 12 pumps for the front tank. You do have to cut and splice the wires for the pump, it comes with heat shrink connectors. not sure why it does not catch fire but not so far. Looks like the same pump assembly would have fit most if not all the various assemblies we tried. I wonder since the 1997 and 1998 trucks were a holdover Ford might have used up a lot of spare parts.

LMC Truck sells them individually but they aren’t cheap.
I ordered a single hubcap off Ebay. It shipped today, and I got an email with a video of how to properly install it. Did not remember the other 3 being so complex.
Well, back to more fuel pump problems on this truck . Gas set mostly in yard waiting on time for body work. Ran on both tanks fine after replacing both pumps and filling with non ethanol gas. Now it runs fine on rear tank, idles a couple of minutes and dies on front tank. I drilled a hole, flushed front tank, and plugged hole with self tapping screw. Same problem. Hooked up a fuel pressure gauge to fuel rail. 42 psi rear tank, runs all you want. Front tank starts on 42 psi, runs maybe 2 minutes, then pressure gradually drops to zero. Cut key off and back on, pressure returns to 42 psi. Can’t think if a possibility other than a bad pump.
