high idle solenoid shuts off around 110 degrees coolant temp.

Right. Given how quickly it started up I expect the coolant was still above that. It's a weird combination - lots of smoke on start, FAST start, and warm engine. I'll have to see if the solenoids engage when I get back in town on Thursday and it is properly cold.

Any chance valve cover gaskets could have anything to do with it? Could it suck air in through there? Looks like both are now leaking towards the front cylinders.
Also repairing the GP wires made no difference.

valve cover gaskets will only leak oil.
