The red FX4 is gonna be sweet. You're right about the red with the beige, they do that with certain colors (like white with silver on the FX4). If we could only have the trucks soon it would be great!
Ultramax...I stand corrected! You are absolutely right...it's the flareside box spec that's forcing me into a two-tone paint scheme. Thanks for keeping me honest! But the good thing is, we'll all love our rides, because they're built to our personal specs, whether it's an STX, XLT, FX4 or Lariat. (BTW, I originally posted under "DonsFx4", now I'm at work under a different account).
Well Don I wasn't trying to come off sounding like a know it all, and actually after I posted my reply then I realized the flareside issue. Come back and read that you've got a flareside box listed in your signature, so I really felt like I had opened my mouth and inserted my size 13. It's all good though, and yes we each have our own unique tastes and prefs and should respect each others opinions ( which I think we do very well).
My $.02,
First off, I was into the Lariat from the get-go until I read into the two.
Everyone is correct from the "Ride" perspective, but those of you who know, the stiffer ride will beat the "Softer" ride all day long when it come to the majority of "off-roading."
Case in point:
I was driving my truck to Seattle for work on my second day of ownership and this little Mazda RX8 kept looking over at me like he wanted to race at every stop light. For a while, I thought he wasn't even looking at me until we came to yet another stop light where he then looked at me again and then pointed his finger forward indicating a race. I just laughed at him as he was just being "sporty" in his little "sporty" car. We did this for yet another stop light, when I realized that we were about to approach an intersection which has been under construction since my birth and would even throw my other 4x4 around like a rag doll. I am not making this up, most people just creep across this intersection. I have even seen Jeeps do it. Anyway, I was nervous about doing this but I wanted to test out the Ranchos. So, when he approached the light, I simply looked down upon him (I love doing that by the way), grabbed a hold of my coffee and put my foot to the floor. Surprisingly, I beat him off the line and as his poor little RX8 gingerly articulated the uneven terrain, a warm smile came across my face as my FX4 handled the bumps like a Lariat handles the road.....NOW THAT IS WHY I BOUGHT AN FX4....Any questions?
Also, the FX4 has more sophisticated throttle calibration in 4 Lo..
LOL The roads are pretty bad up here in New York too but I think I'll make it to work in the Lariat just fine. I really don't plan on doing any off roading so I went with the creature comforts. And if some s.o.b. comes up on me in a Mazda and wants to race I'll just give him the go sign and watch him go. We all have our own reasons for buying something and that's what makes life interesting. I had a Jeep CJ5 with a V8 and headers when I was younger ( the good old days ) and I loved it, but now I want to sit back pop in a CD and cruise down the highway. Then again you can do that with the FX4 too can't ya. Aint life great? Best of luck to all of you and your rides.
Mike
Well put MIKE!!
I have had two jeeps in the past and still long for them.
I am in full agreement with you my man! Basically, the only reason I wanted the FX4 (and it was over the XLT not the Lariat) was for the 18" Machine Cast and the Heavy duty suspension (I have always liked Rancho from my Jeep days) for towing my boat!!
Heck, I highly doubt if she will ever be used off road to her potential. She might see an occasional climb here and there, but that is only if I decided to chase a steelhead or some other critter DEEP off the beaten path...
So Mike.............Tell me.............What do you think about A-ROD???
OTHG_Mike - Two words for you Yanks...."SALARY CAP"
Why don't you let my "M's" have a chance at a title....
big Jack - Yes, the FX4 package comes standard with Heavy duty Ranchos. It doesn't say which and it's too bad that the do not have their logo on them, but I venture to say that they are Rs9000s or something like that!! They are most definitely stiff like Ranchos are known to be.

Cool, they shoulda left em white with the red boots. I don't think they're 9000's. 9000's are adjustable. Maybe the 5000's. -Jack
I haven't even sat in one yet, just looked in the window. I ordered the tan interior without seeing one and now that I have I think I should have got the black. It's very light and I come home covered in dirt a lot from work. The salesman thinks I'm crazy not wanting to test drive one but I really want to be suprised when I take her home. OHHHH I can't wait!!!
