My parents just gave me their '90 Aerostar 3.0 XLT. They said I can do anything to it so long as I can still tow the family boat with it. It is completely stock right now so I am going to modify it. First off, the paint is scratched in places and there are various dents in it so I am going to have it repainted. Has anyone heard of a place called MAACO? I am thinking about having them paint it but I dont want it peeling in a few years. Second off I am going to put some aftermarket rims on it. Does anyone know the dimensions of the current rims? I have heard that Mustang rims will fit but I really dont like the style of them. I am going to remove the rear bench and put a custom-built speakerbox back in the back. I am also going to put runningboards on it and dual exhaust. I am looking for AlTessa lights for it but I have had no success. I like the clear lights better. Will post pics when i'm done.
Unfortunately, there seems to be a lack of performance stuff for Aerostars. I used a MAACO in northern VA on my '71 Maverick. The paint was OK, the body work they did (quarter panels) was better than good and the price wasn't too bad. I will say the paint didn't hold up as well in the California sun as the factory paint did. But, I must admit that I didn't wax it like I should and it was parked outside all the time. And, I went with one of the cheaper paint jobs. You may have better luck with a more expensive paint. I removed all of the body trim that I could and stayed with the same color, both of which saved money.
