Well, I'm an (up)proud member of the catastrophic CP4 pump failure club.
Being paranoid based on other user's experience didn't help nor did any additive. I changed my fuel filters more than required and added cetane boosted additives at almost every fill up. Nonetheless, the pump failed @ 129,325 on my 2017 SD and sent metal fragments through the entire fuel system.
The only indication I got was a CEL with a Reduced Engine Performance Message under acceleration followed by a complete engine shutdown. I had it towed back to the house and dropped the tank-side fuel filter only to find metal in the residual fuel. I had it towed to a Ford dealership for further diagnosis hoping it was something else, but it wasn't. $11,256 later and I got her back...and entered my information into the pending Class Action.
Not much more I could have done according to the service manager...

Sorry to hear that. But you made it 109,000 more miles than I did! Mine was, however, repaired under warranty. They just didn’t have the parts available.
Still cost me about the same as you because that truck went away and I drove out with a different new truck.
So did yourd have to wait on parts for a while, or did they have them avilable?
Dpk would’ve turned that into just a couple thousand and a lot less work to get running.
I love the 6.7 and its capabilities but I don’t understand folks who don’t spend a few hundred on a dpk to contain the cp4 to a simple fix once they’re out of warranty. It’s so simple to do and it’s night and day if the fuel pump goes bad.

You would think Ford and others would go ahead and install that kind of setup. I guess the math of how many failures occur within and outside the warranty window has been calculated.

When mine failed there was no such thing invented as yet. Better solution is don’t buy a CP4 in the first place. The on ly reason to do so is to be able to pee the furthest; or have the biggest woodie!

“OTHERS” did fix the problem. Got away from the CP4 for a better pump.

yes I agree there. Would’ve been nice if ford integrated something like a dpk.

only reason isn’t to pee further. I have all the different engines in our trucks and they serve their purposes. With a little thoughtfulness you can make a fuel pump failure not such a big ordeal. It’s not very hard to do but some people don’t ever modify or touch any of their vehicles so o get it.
there are benefits to the turbo diesel over the gassers. But I agree towing under a certain weight the gassers are preferred for simplicity. But quit the odd fascination with others dicks lol.

A. Bcause the aftermarket saw a failure rate that refuses to see and remedy.
Fix the damn problem and the aftermarket won’t be needed.
dpk was invented for the simple fact that the pump spreads metal shavings if it goes bad. So it’s a simple solution to co taint to the pump.
Great part is also that the truck will still drive with pump failure and a dpk so it doesn’t leave you stranded either. Since ford never adopted a kit from the factory it’s a no brainer to put one on for a few hundred bucks in my mind.
I guess I should have been more clear when I said don’t buy a CP4. I should have stated straight out…….if you need a diesel, dont buy a Ford and the CP4 won’t be a problem.
Any time a person is a brand fanboy, be sure to bring your own vaseline!

a lot of assumptions in your post as I can tell you’re pretty excited over this topic. Who’s brand loyal? I don’t owe any of them any loyalty

I bought the Ford, because I prefer them, period. Had a Ram and was not impressed, and don't care for Government Motors. It has nothing to do with a certain body part envy. I will put the kit on once the warranty is out, and if something happens, fix it and move on.
