Having procured my doner truck for my restoration, I'm wondering about color combinations for the stepside trucks. I remember my 79 stepside was solid dark metalic blue and only used tape stripes for accents on the box around the fenders and the tailgate and was sans-chrome on the cab and front clip.
But, my doner truck is a very nice rust-free creme and copper tutone longbed with the race track. (anyone need a bed?) So what should the correct paint scheme be for a replacement ste-side box?
Does anyone have a web site link that shows the color options for a 78-79 stepside?
Check Project Bronco website at http://www.projectbronco.com. Click on 78-79 Bronco Literature on left side of page. Albeit it is a Bronco site, some of the literature contains pictures of stepsides. The site also contains a 1979 Ford Light Truck Color & Trim Selections brochure.
From what I can tell, the Styleside (step side) boxes were not into tu-tone paint jobs or race track chrome. Seeing as I have a perfect Ranger Lariat cab and clip with these, I'm going to come up with my own tu-tone paint scheme for the box!
Guess I'll have a "one of a kind" when finished.
So, anyone that has actual pictures of stylesides in a tu-tone paint scheme please forward them to me.
Meant to say Flareside, not Styleside. Ford referred to the stepside as a Flareside, probably because one of the truck makers already used the term "stepside".
