Shocks

Is there a prefered vendor to purchase shocks? I'm at 30k miles and I'm hoping to get a little ride improvement. Thinking about bilsten(sp?) 5100.
Anything else i should consider since ill be changing the shocks?

Shock Surplus is good. Maybe put a new steering stabilizer on at the same time.

Had both Bilstein 5100’s & Rancho 5000x. Prefer the Rancho 5000, noticeably better ride. $0.02. Have 250,000 miles on the Ranchos

I went with Bilstein 5100’s in all 4 corners and a steering stabilizer. Got them from Shock Surplus. It was the lowest price and they shipped fast. Whichever ones you go with Shock Surplus is a good place to get them.

Bought my 5100s a couple of years ago from Summit Racing...as good a price as I could find at the time AND they had both fronts and rears on stock, which wasn't the case with all the sources. Ordered Sunday evening and had them delivered to my house by noon on Tuesday.

These are the two Bilstein 5100 series part numbers.

Front = 24-274951
Rear = 24-274968

Bilstein's Catalog

seems to have the best price for the complete set of four.

So far I’m liking these mono tube Rancho RS7MT for both on and off pavement. They ride a little softer than the Bilsteins but more controlled than the OE FX4 shocks. I like Bilsteins on IFS but not solid front axles.

Why are the Bilstein 5100 listed for a 2-2.5" lift?! They work on the stock suspension but don't list them as a stock replacement!!! What am I missing?

I just looked those up cause I've never heard of them. Limited lifetime warranty and they're designed for colder temps. It is funny when it is -30F and you just get in and start driving and your suspension hasn't warmed up enough to function yet. I've had Ranchos on other Super Duties and can't complain. They beat the junk factory shocks by a lot.

RS77042 is the P/N for factory height fronts
RS77047A is the factory height rear P/N

I had a set of the adjustable Rancho's and they were shot after 25k miles.

I've never had the adjustable ones but I had Rancho 5000s on my 2005 F250 for 60k miles and they were still better at 60k miles than the FoMoCo shocks on my 2022 were after 10k miles.

The price difference is substantial. And in my experience Bilstein rides very firm. I'll probably go with Rancho.

When it gets that cold I only go out if I have to.

Those are the P/N’s I got. They don’t come with boots, so I spent another $60 on boots.
