It looks like speaker wire to me and as best i could trace it was to a large wire bundle running on the right rocker panel. Then again, it's all taped up so who knows. The parasitic drain is what is driving me crazy. I also got the Adaptive Steering Fault Service Required message...
If you are looking for help it would be a good idea to include the details about your truck - year, engine, trim level, etc. Also - a picture not so close up of the area where the connector is would be helpful. I have a wiring diagram book but it is hard to tell where you are exactly.
I was just taken by surprise to find the wire insulation gone, really do not think that is the issue I am chasing though. If it were on just one side of the plug, I'd almost believe it to be a factory over sight, however, it is on both sides of the plug so it is just a little surprise the previous owner left for me.
I am just waking up and will get started chasing the drain in a few. Not really looking fwd to that!

As I mentioned in prior post, it is most likely a shield wire. It is common for these to be terminated as an uninsulated wire into the connector. It is not a factory mistake. It is on both sides of the plug to carry the shield through the connection.
To narrow down the draw, put a meter on the battery to measure the amps being drawn. Then start pulling fuses one by one until you see a drop in the amps. Now keep in mind that some systems draw constant power. Once you have a list of which ones are drawing power, you can troubleshoot from there.
The batteries are dead in the morning. I did replace the driver side batt a few months ago, found 8v on the passenger side today even though the green light was showing on the battery itself. Autozone checked the battery and told me it was reading zero. When I asked the lady to elaborate well......it is Autozone.
I replaced the battery and unplugged both stereo amps. Going to give that a day or two and see if that solves the problem.

Both batteries need replaced at the same time. I'm now guessing you don't have a parasitic draw. You just old batteries that needed replaced. When one dies, it will start to kill the other one. That is why the passenger side is now dead.
So now you need to replace with 2 new batteries. Otherwise you will have this same scenario happen again. That's one expensive lesson.

From posts I've read on this forum in the past, that sure makes sense. My truck is a single battery 7.3. But now may be sitting for several days or a week or 2 at a time since I bought a daily to keep miles down.
I went ahead and zip tied a small maintainer under the hood and keep it plugged in now. Didn't cost a whole lot and with the low quality that the batteries seem to be noted for I thought it would be worth it. I would get the battery saver mode message on the FordPass every now and then.
