I finally got around to getting these wheels powder coated. Now I need to decide what I want to do for tires. My truck was ordered with 6.50 16 tires but those are almost impossible to find at a reasonable price. 7.00 16's are as hard to find. I have found 7.50 16's that are affordable but not sure on the size difference. I really want traction tires on the rear and highway on the front the way it was done back in the day.
If the wheels are the 16" x 4.5" (measured between the beads) then the 6.50" x 16" was the largest tire they offered for that wheel. I checked and 6.88" is the widest recommended tire width for that wheel, which is more a mathematical thing than a tire size that is actually available. The tire manufacturer or vendor can possibly confirm one way or the other.

Really depends on the "look" you want, I've run 315/75 16's on 6" rims, yeah, they look a little balloonish, but you can air them down and they are fine, I think you would be fine with 7.50x16's
Well I found 650 16 bias ply tires so I ordered them as that is what the truck was ordered with. 750's were 3 inch diameter bigger so I was concerned about the 1.5 inches that it would raise the truck. When I load it in my trailer to go to out of state shows I only have about an inch and a half clearance at the top of the drivers door to the top of the escape door to get out of the cab. The tires came today! Holy cow are they skinny!
You posted ‘em, allright. In three different threads. Round third and head for home?
Yeah I know, I posted in the vintage thread by accident and have asked for it to be deleted. The what have you done today was intentional and I lived up to my promise of saying I would post it here when I finally got around to getting them on. Also I just wanted to make sure everyone, especially you got to see it!
Looks great! Steering is always easier with tall narrow tires! Really beginning to appreciate the styling of the '64 more and more, sharp looking grill, side emblem high on hood where it is clearly more legible, Custom Cab door handle scripts and the matching bed makes it one of Fords best looking vehicles for '64.
