Hi Forum - I recently bought a 1970 F250 Camper Special with this VIN tag on the door:
It was manufactured with a 360 but advertised as having a 390. Below is a picture of the engine tag but it seems really incomplete compared to all the engine tag decoders I've seen online. Other than saying 390 (it actually looks a little suspect, homemade in fact) I can't tell much else. Any guidance?
I'm willing to bet that the engine was rebuilt into a 390 with a new crank and rods. That tag is probably a shop's way of showing that it has been rebuilt to a 390 in 4/2005. I think the only way to tell is to measure the stroke.
Good guess Devlar. If it was rebuilt by a major company there is probably a disc epoxied to the block or freeze plug. Probably right front of the engine. I believe they say their company name and a build number on them.
