So, I changed my oil 2 weeks ago. I have 368 miles on the new oil. The "IOLM" already reads 91%.

As I mentioned earlier, at this oil change the "IOLM" read much lower than it ever has before, and I wasn't even quite at 5k miles. I have no idea why the "IOLM" is now dropping so much faster than it ever has since getting my truck...

I am waiting for my OA to come back from Blackstone. I didn't add a TBN on this one, but I think I am going to contact them and ask them to do one on this one.

What have you been doing with the truck, Towing, using tow/haul a lot? That increases the rate at which iolm calculates. Go check your trip meter and make sure it isn't set up for towing as that can also factor in.

The IOLM today looks are more than miles and time, but factors in load, fuel use, and temperature as well as if the truck is put into tow/haul mode which changes engine and transmission strategies to severe use.

mine always drops more than 5% on first start after oil change..and reset before I start it.

don’t know what the technology is but..it surely has some short comings.

btw, I’m at 49% since this thread.

I was curious as I haven't looked at mine for a while. Currently have 8659 miles since last change, with a sample around 6400 miles, and the IOLM is sitting at 26%.
According to that I should get 11K miles out of this oil change.

I wasn't aware that using tow haul mode was a factor in it, makes sense. It hasn't seemed to make any difference in my use, but I put on such few miles that the time (12 months) still seems to be the only factor. Could be that 2019 IOLM is a dumbed down version. 2/3 of my miles are from city driving, frequent stops and maybe 15 miles of driving at a time. During that use I'm not towing, but I am in tow haul mode roughly 75%+ of the time. I like it instead of more frequent brake use. So far my IOLM has remained pretty consistent in its countdown to 0% coinciding with time (months).

Thats it, your short trips and use of T/H. In my case my usual drive is 75 minutes at highway speeds. I don't do short trips, very little idle time, and few miles below 35.

I think you got me confused with Chad. He is the one experiencing a change in interval based on IOLM.

Mine doesn't vary. Mine never gets to 0% before 12 months even with majority short trips and tow haul mode use.

How many miles on the oil? I think your frequent city driving and idle time has a lot to do with your OLM dropping so quickly.

You guys are probably on to something but I always use T/H mode and my OLM goes all the way out... But no short trips.

I think it also has to do with some kind of change he made to the IOLM algorithm. I'm still not sure where the change was made but he has mentioned it in a couple of threads.

I say that because my use is not too far off from what his is, but I don't see the rapid drop in percentage. I haven't made any IOLM changes. Like you, my IOLM goes all the way out, till the 12 month limit, even with frequent tow haul use and short trips.

So I'm assuming this can be done on Forscan then?
