VIN Decode Question - Incorrectly Titled?
#31
The last guy that inspected my truck had a good laugh. Years ago when I transferred the tags from my old f150 to this f250, somehow lady at the DMV listed in the description the f250 is a f150. When I bought the truck, someone put a lift and big tires on it, and changed the fender badges to F350 badges.
So the registration description is a f150, the VIN says it's a f250(which it really is) and the fender badges say it's a f350.

- Deluxe Tu-Tone Paint
Your vehicle was actually produced on October 10, 1979 -- twenty days behind schedule.
The drivetrain was no surprise. I knew it had a 351M & C6. The paint colors are a surprise. A Google search for Code 6F comes back with "Desert Gold" (as opposed to Walnut Glow). Google returns Code 6B with Sand Glow (just like the report). Deluxe two-tone paint is the last thing listed and I'd be curious to see what that paint combination looks like. It's pretty cool that this truck was built at San Jose as my Dad and I had two '66 Shelby GT-350s the were built there, too. I knew the truck came from Arizona so the DSO (Phoenix) is not a surprise . The interior style and color are what's currently in the truck. I'm wondering if I might consider a lower rear gear as 2.75 seems a little high for the 300/6 that's going in.
- Anyone know what "Sports Instrumentation" is? I do believe it has a tach in the cluster.
Per the Ford sales brochure: 0-6K Tach, ammeter, oil pressure and trip odometer
- RWL tires! Woo.- Tilt wheel is a surprise, too. I know the steering column in the cab is not tilt. However, there is a tilt column (a spare) in the bed.
- I have the low-mount swing-away mirrors
- Speed Control = Cruise Control (confirmed per the sales brochure)
- White Styled Wheels!! I found a set of the American Racing white "wagon wheels". It's cool to know it came from the factory that way.
- Ranger XLT - I need to understand what's included in that package (I'm sure Gary's site has more info).

Marti reports are always interesting.
Back to the question at square one, did your DMV register as an F100 or an F150? I'd suspect the initial registration way back in 80 or so was in error and they may not have taken the difference between an F100 or F150 very seriously at the time. Miss the good old days!
Anyways, that report ought to dispel any question at the DMV.
