Good point. I guess I was referring to the truck overall as a fail and calling it a 7.3 since that distinguishes it from the Deisel F250 as far as a discussion thread goes. I did read somewhere that the mating of the 7.3 gas with the 10 speed transmission has had its issues.

Thanks, @OBS460 . This is helpful input. I've never dealt with an issue like this in 25 years as a truck owner. We're cash buyers who always get something a couple years old with low mileage and we take care of our vehicles. I haul a small all-aluminum Cimarron trailer and one horse maybe 6 times a year, otherwise the truck is my daily around towner. I'll post here what response we get from Ford and I'll appreciate all of your feedback on that and advice on next steps. Thanks : )

The 2020 and 2021 10R140 gas and diesel versions had CDF drum bushings slip issues and valve body warpage/leakage issues. They resolved the CDF bushing in later 2021s. I am not sure they have resolved the valve body issues yet.

Here's Ford's response. Does this seem fair? Are they expecting me to counter or is it a take it or leave it communication (that's my sense). "I received the Cost Details from Amanda in the Service Department over at Gary Smith Ford. The Total for Repair(Including Parts and Labor) is $8,447.67, Ford will be covering $3,379.07 leaving you to pay $5,068.60. If this is something you would like to proceed with please let me know."

I did come back and ask if that is a reasonable dealer estimate and if I had the option of working with other dealers..

I'd take the deal and put the whole mess behind me. Others might want to turn it into personal long-lasting special project with Ford.

Best of luck and thanks for sharing your deal. Would a transmission shop be able to repair it for less than $5100? It would be worth it to me to check around to see if it is even an option to do a repair.

That is one expensive heavy monster tranny. $8000 seems right for what I poked around online and saw. If that is labor through a Ford dealer with a warranty, that does not sound "now a days" all that bad. I agree about dragging it out if you do go with dealer.

Thinking back was there any indication that may have been worth having noted in your truck warranty file prior to the warranty expiration?

Good wisdom and advice I'll take. Thanks to all. Will post a picture of Mike when he's out of the shop.

I would like to think if it's a Ford REMAN, you would get some sort or warranty since Ford is installing the transmission.
I too would take the deal, time is money. I doubt any other shop would be able to do it for much less.

I think reman transmission is 3yr unlimited miles in those years. Rebuilt 12 month 12k miles which ever comes first.

Years ago I went that route with a reman v10 engine, 3yrs unlimited miles during that time means alot especially when doing 50k a year miles.

Can the transmission used in the 7.3 be upgraded with parts from the transmission used in the diesels?

And to add to your question, Could you go the reverse route, could you install a tranny designed for the diesel and put it into the 7.3 WITHOUT changing anything, essentially getting a beefier tranny for your gas job

Both transmissions have the same weak points. There was a transmission shop that has a website that addresses all of the weak points and they can build yours for only like $8k-10k.

Naaa, I’ve done many transmissions and clutch jobs in my garage with some blocks of wood and a floor jack.

Me too. 35 yrs ago with 400 turbos and the M22s.

This outfit seems legit, to me these trannys look pretty hefty sumwitches.
