brain picking.

I am looking at a new distributor for my 88 f150 5.0 I have two choices on the drive gear cast iron or steel. the dist is 40 miles away also the shaft to drive the oil pump is it just that or is there a sleeve? I got all my new spark plugs in except one the threads are buggered on the plug. i chased the plug holes on the head and all the rest went right in, no anti-seize needed. i am trying to get as much done as possible before the snow flies.

Distributor gear depends of what camshaft is in the truck. Do you still have the flat tappet cam or did you put a roller in there?

I don’t understand your question about the oil pump shaft. Are you replacing that too?

You don’t need to put anti-seize on the spark plug threads but it’s a good idea.

The roller blocks need the steel gear (your 88 should have a cast gear) Maybe pull your distributor and see which one you have in case the engine has been replaced?
The oil pump drive has no sleeve
Just the bottom of the distributor hollow shaft portion (if you consider that a sleeve)

It has the original camshaft. The old oil pump drive shaft looks a bit worn as well as the dist is worn as well.

Ok. Then follow what was stated in post #3 for a flat tappet cam.
