Definitely curious what gets the best connection. We are planning some long travels with our trailer and looking for wifi with best reception. Thought the truck might have it, but didn't think about a hotspot with antenna, never had one.
You'll need to look at coverage maps for the areas that you are planning to visit and see which one has better service coverage for that route. It's not wifi, its cellular service just like the personal hotspot that you have in your phone to tether other devices.
Also be aware that you cannot be connected to cellular hotspot (wifi) in the truck and use wireless carplay at the same time. Wireless carplay uses wireless projection (IE wifi) to the headunit for communication. You cannot connect a phone to 2 wifi connection at the same time currently.

Wee Boost by Wilson Antenna's is the best. I used it this summer out in the Black Hills. And many others on the road. You can't miss seeing that Black antenna sticking up.
