Maybe if we let all the 6.7 die hards bash it and we go along with it then no one will want a 7.3 and we can have them all to ourselves. I dont care about my truck's resale value like the diesel guys depend on so devalue the 7.3 away.

The 7.3 is the worst most unreliable gas engine Ford has ever produced. The lifters will grenade by 30k miles leaving your family stranded on a cliff side if the head gaskets don't blow from those coolant slots between the cylinders.

Geesh, this forum sounds like a bunch of elementary school kids fighting over who has the best lunch box.

I purchased an F450 because I wanted it. I could have easily gotten an F350 DRW with 7.3 and 4.30 gears and probably been good with my 17k GD390RK going down the road. If I had an opinion or wanted to say the reasons why I chose one over the other, I don't feel confident I could share that without some overreaction by other members on this forum.

I own both the 7.3 and 6.7 the furthest thing from my mind at purchase is what the resale value will be, I don't care what it is. Every gas engine purchase is bought with will it do what is needed and will it go 250k miles with hopefully nothing more than preventive maintenance for 6 years +/-. I keep my vehicles because I enjoy what I've purcheased for the task at hand and I believe Ford makes a better heavier duty truck for my wants/ needs.

All this chest beating of the dsl vs gas threads lately can be entertaining and tiring. Having a foot in both camps daily my go to vehicle seems to the 7.3 for daily tasks. Leaving the diesel for the bi monthly 5th wheel move unless I want to feel the seat of pants torque of the 6.7 dually. Great to have choices.

.90 cent difference between diesel and 87 gas price.

6.7 HO 3.55 gears (Tremor)
$21.51
5.661 gallons used
19.60 mpg

7.3 3.73 gears
$19.39
6.689 gallons used
16.59 mpg

Under these circumstances and in this particular region when loooking at the actual fuel cost to mile it's a little closer than it appears.

.193 cents per mile for diesel. ($21.51/ 111= .193 cents)
.174 cent per mile for gas. ($19.39/ 111 = .174 cents)

Over a 200,000 mile life of driving the cost would be under the test parameters shown in video.
6.7 $38,600
7.3 $34,800

$3,800 difference

Edit.. corrected some #s

LOL yeap the 6.7 sure looks like it slaughter the 7.3......I notice OP has not come back to comment since you did the math....

It always seems to be an ongoing pissing match for no good reason. Some people on both sides just cannot let it go.
LIke you, I could have bought either. But I bought the one that suited both my needs and my checkbook best. What the other guys do is not my concern and I don't see the need to defend the choice to internet strangers.

Yep that's what it all boils down to. In TFL's video, it cost more money to drive the diesel the same distance as the gas truck. And that does not even account for the upfront cost of the diesel engine, the fuel filters, the maintenance intervals, the DEF, the $17k CP4 failure that's lurking, or anything else. That's ONLY the fuel cost.

You can slice the watermelon any way you want, but at the end of the day the gasoline engine is the one that makes the most financial sense for 98% of people. The only reason to buy the diesel is if you have a legitimate need to tow over 20,000 lbs. which rules out almost everybody other than farmers and hot shot truckers. Or in my case I was shopping USED trucks and could not find a 7.3 anywhere when I needed to purchase. My next truck will be gas, even if I have to order new.

Money, that's what it boils down to. The gas keeps more of it in your pocket today and in the future.

Naturally, 450 pickup buyers have to go with the 6.7, but commercial chassis cab buyers get a choice of gas or diesel. But hey, what do commercial users know, they probably are all just going from A to B with no payload or trailer by the conventional wisdom. LOL.

Probably busy hanging out with his "eat the rich" comrades, since the other thread got locked, he just has to stir something up since he is traveling on a Thursday.

Amen. No one should be telling anyone what they "need". Get what you want and don't berate others for what they have.
I personally think a Lariat or better is a total waste of money, Much more so than "wasting" money on the diesel.
But I applaud those that want it. I say go for it, if it makes you happy and I will complement you on a sweet looking truck all day long. .

I'm back, to stir the pot.....

Best part of life, I don't ever pay for fuel/gas

Actually the more I use and the more expensive it is the more money is made.

I would like to see a straight head to head challenge, It would have been better comparison.
