I have a 1986 Bronco fullsize with a fuel injected 302. I have been working with my dad on this project for a while. We got the Bronco after it sat for 16 years and got it running. It threw a rod so now we are rebuilding the motor. progress is moving along smoothly, but we are not sure what this one part is. there are photos attached. any help would be appreciated. thanks!

That is the camshaft thrust plate
Without it, the cam will walk forward and destroy itself and lifters
The chain will rub the front cover
Better take it back apart and make damn sure that piece is in there
If it was a carb front cover you could look in the fuel pump hole and see if there is one present
If you bought a longblock the piece is there
Sorry to say, if you guys did not know what that part was, it is easy to overlook things like that and the oil slinger that some have
