Timely thread, I'm sitting here right now ripping CD's to memory stick for my Sync3. Really aggravating that they nanny-stiffarm you to keep you from browsing folders while moving (sure miss that convenience of simply popping out a CD and loading a new one, so that I can at least hear a new artist).
So, I've worked around the nanny by putting all mp3's in the root folder of the memory stick. Ripping them to "Artist, album, track nbr, and title" groups all the artists and albums, but means I have to do a lot of button pushing to skip over albums. But, at least I can listen to more that one folder at a time. Sure wish there was a way to unlock all the Sync3 options in ForScan to get rid of all the nanny BS settings. But, this scheme will work in the mean time.

There are folks that have already ripped everything you nailing down.
I can see it kind of that way maybe. I was raised by a Boomer. A CD is not something most folks would say is a Boomer thing.
CLark Griswold and Herb Tarlek are the quintessential Boomers.
Yes, but it is us boomers clinging to our CD's, as using my phone for blue tooth or other connection, has proved to be a total PIA.
Some of my old CD's don't show song titles or even album title when ripping. So I bring up my phone, don't even know what music I'm looking at.
Contrast that with putting in one CD, 100% I know what music is in there.
They dropped the CD player in SuperDuty in 2018, I think. I was bummed I couldn't get one in my '22. Lots of CD's I can't use, had to burn them to USB stick, but it ain't the same.
OP, I would paint the face plate Satin Black, but looks like a good mod. ..........hmm..... wonder if the factory CD player from an older F150/250 could be adapted to our trucks that don't have them................
I actually like the silver face, it matches the trim (in XLT anyway, not sure of trim in other versions).
Funny I was busting on my Dad today about him smoking Winstons, Mom and her Salam menthol smoking in a car, letting me freely unbuckled crawl around the back windows of a 71 Impala with a 396 BB hauling a 20 foot 1963 wing Shasta. Good times
No wonder I am a mess.
your not alone! back of a 64 Biscayne SW 340 hp 409 3 speed od trans ,ny to ca trips with dad huffing away on his lucky's

Boomer here, fan of digital, over 2,500 albums ripped so far. I use a free program called EAC (Exact Audio Copy) that pulls in CD info (artist, album, song, artwork, etc.) from the internet, no need to type it in. If you rip to FLAC (or ALAC) you get uncompressed CD quality, unlike Mp3 files which are heavily compressed. I keep everything organized with iTunes because it's free, easy to use, and let's me make playlists I can easily sync to my phone. You can also rip with iTunes, but EAC has some advanced features I like to use.
By the way, CD quality is not the best available, because it's still based on disc storage technology available in 1982. Back then record companies realized they could fit a typical double album onto one disc by limiting the sound quality to 16bit, 44.1kHz. Amazingly that's the CD format still used today, which is totally weird because that's like saying we have Blu-ray and 4K quality disc storage technology available, but we're only going to sell you people VHS tapes. Anyway, the best quality music format for consumers right now is digital, from sites like this: https://www.hdtracks.com where you can download digital albums up to 24bit, 192kHz quality.
Sorry to wander so much, your mod is actually pretty cool and I do wish they still put CD players in vehicles!
and that's ok. I dont even have a cd player let alone a DVD player in the house anymore. I also had ripped my entire cd collection to mp3's year ago and had a 10000 song library. Now days I just stream from Spotify from my phones, computer, TV, in my cars, house and on the beach with bluetooth speaker.
All my play lists I had in iTunes with my ripped library got converted to Spotify play lists. It's just so much less effing around. If I know I am going to be in a no cell zone, I just tell Spotify to download all my Playlist to my phone, easy peasy.
Btw, I am a boomer too, although at the tail-end(1963), but do embrace technology.
Now that said, i sure wanted a nice AKAI reel to reel upright tape recorder in the worst way back in the day. I built my home sound system back then from heathkit, and that was quite a personal accomplishment.
