The 1999 F350 7.3 I purchased last week has a controller in the engine bay. Previous owner did not know anything about it. I looked at the Performance Diesel Parts website but did not see anything to go off of and an internet search did not bring up anything I could see that would help. Short of sending them an email with the part can someone here maybe identify what controller this may be? I have never programmed a diesel or really looked at programmers in the past so its new territory for me. I have to diagnose a miss from the injectors and don't want any surprises from an outside failure...
Where does the wiring lead and connect to? I've got no idea on that thing either but knowing where it's tentacles go may help work out what it's doing.
Thanks everyone, I did a search but somehow missed the links you posted...kept taking me to Australian companies.
I will be checking the wiring this weekend. Was waiting for my engine creeper to get here...my back just can't take hanging over an engine anymore!!!
A topside creeper!? Those things will make you soft. Next you'll want wrenches that don't slip and bash your knuckles, and before you know it you'll be drinking beer from a glass. They are freakin sweet though, enjoy that one.

I did get an email back from Diesel Dynamics. Different company, they were nice and wrote back that they forwarded my email to the owner of the company that closed shop to see if I get a response.
Here is a pic where the ECU termination happens, it is taped up in this harness. I will pull it apart and ensure a good connection this weekend when I am under the hood...

His answer was right.
It is a glorified 10K mod (or 5.6K, depending on if the resistor is inline or straddled with ground)... hidden in a "black box" to make it look like more wizardry than it really is, in order to charge more money that it was really worth.
I just needed to get up on the engine and see what's going on. The unit looks to be an edge EZF1000, I just need to open and see what power level it is set at. The topside creeper takes a bit to get used to but it will save my back!!! Started the truck this weekend and there was no miss.
