Since I got my engine and transmission back in with new mounts my shifter seems to have a lot more play.My transmission mount was completely gone and I installed a new one from DC.Could this have had an effect on shifter linkage? Can I adjust this out with the shifter rods or is this probably the pin in shifter steering column rod?Seems like the new transmission mount maybe changed something?Gears change fine just a lot of play.I guess I could adjust a rod and see or is there a procedure to set up these rods? This is on my stock 1952 F-1.I just can't imagine where all this shifter lever "flop" is coming from!

I guess you would just have to check around at the several Ford Obsolite. I assume you have three on that tree! First question is it shifting? The issue I had had was reverse. If you pulled the engine and transmission, replaced the rubber mounts. Keep in mind my truck is a 55 F-100 I did install new rubber bushings on all my linkages and now she goes into reverse and all three forward gears. Really smooth. I got my kit from OKC obsolete. I think it was a Mark K product. A small linkage adjustment would and might help. Keeping in mind your changes all the engine and transmission mounts.on this the biggest deal is cleaning the linkages. They were covered with grease and dirt. I had to use my moto tool with a brass brush to clean the threads just a couple turns. It takes a little time. A guy in our car club warned me do not disconnect the linkages on the transmission, they can wear. But usually you can Bush them. Finding linkages they are rare as hens teeth.
It sounds like the old trans mount pulled the linkage tighter and caused wear to the linkage you're experiencing
Since rods are rare I'd opt for welding and re-cutting the ends. A job for spray welding maybe?
Thanks Ross,I have seen your write-up on repairing the shifter rod pin.I have a spare complete shifter column that I could disassemble and rebuild for remove and replace.
Ross that write-up was awesome. I think I printed it and put it in the restoration book for the red 52. Thank you for taking the time to do that. BTW my shifter in that 52 is awesome too!
Leon check your linkage. Numerous places for slop to occur/multiply. Even the shifter studs can get loose and inject play. Think about how many times all those parts move in a simple 5 mile drive! Somebody posted on fordbarn about this, and I had forgotten how worn out my grommets were, egg shaped!
