I have an '04 F-350 supercab 4x4. At about 400 miles I started to notice that the engine was surging forward between 1750 and 3000 RPM's. The turbo changes pitch up and down with the surge. When I accelerate with medium pressure the engine revs up in steps, like it increases power in notches. I took it to the dealer and they sould everything looks good with the computer, no diagnostic problems. It seems to do it worse in the colder mornings (30 to 50). When I brought it to the dealer it was 65 and not acting up as much. Can Anyone help? Also my fuel mileage sucks, it is at 11-12 MPG. Not much better than my previous V10 F-250.
I'd take it back to the dealer, make the tech take a road test with you to verify the problem. Document the time, date and number of days in the shop independently of the shop orders. This was one of the problems that resulted in the buyback of my '03. Yours is the first of the '04s that I have heard of that is having a surge problem but I'm not a tech and others may have solutions for your
Thanks for the advice. If you check out 'Surging under Acceleration' by Truck U on the page, we both are having the exact same problem and our vehicles were made one day apart from each others. I am so frustrated. The whole reason I bought this truck is because the dealership dropped my previous F250 off the lift and damaged it. They repaired the damage, but I could have done a better job with a spray can. The owner gave me a really good trade-in to buy the new truck. Guess I should have kept the old one.
Just got a call from the dealership and they said it was the EPS, it senses exhaust back pressure. I should have the truck back tomorow. We'll see if that fixed it.
