I have a 1999 Ranger XLT, RWD, 4 cylinder manual trans.
What engines would I be able to swap into my truck easily? It has a stock engine in it, but there is a pin hole that makes it very slowly leak antifreeze. I have tried getting other ranger engines from people I know, this being the third time I've looked at one. Each time I have found worse cracks than what I have now. And since I have a 99 ranger the driver side motor mount is impossible to find the correct one (it is not the same as the passenger side, despite what all the autoparts stores say)
So I'm debating on swapping with a different kind of engine, but I don't know what my options are. I want to keep my transmission, so will need to be the same bolt pattern. And preferably engines that I actually can get motor mounts for, even if they are solid mounts. Are there even any options?
You'll have to search for an engine from a rebuilder or rebuild supplier. More money, but nothing like what you will spend to adapt a different engine. Especially if you value your time and need a running truck.
