hey all.
2003 v10 heater hoses leaking at the heater core. Can see the coolant around the plastic quick disconnect. Found a motorcraft replacement for the inlet side with aux rear heat. Can't find the return side WITH aux rear heat. When I search for the quick disconnect ends, all the ones that look like mine the website says don't fit. this looks like what I have.
On another note, how the actual F do you get the heater core hose off? I bought the fork with the long handle. Figured out how to get back there and on but it didn't release the tabs. Tried it on the connector for the rear heat and it seemed like it didn't compress the tabs enough. welded on a thin piece of sheet metal to make the gap smaller. got the tool on the hose, seemed snugger than the first time. still no go. HELP!
I can't remember how I got mine off, but the internal O ring in the quick connect ends up fusing it's self to the pipe. I think you'll have to twist the connector a wee bit while you have the release tabs compressed, and as you pull.
Finally got the hose off. Had to remove the other hose to get pliers on it to twist it so I could depress the tab with a long screwdriver. Do I need to replace the orings if I'm reusing the other hose? Where do I get them? Can't find anything for new orings or replacement quick connects. Ones that look like it are Dorman 800-403 half the websites say they fit rest say they won't. Thought I had a replacement one missed thats if for the 6.0, so it dosen't route the correct way.
After wasting a couple days trying to find hoses online that looked like they might work, I said F it. Used the ford hose for the 6.0. Had to reconfigure where all the hoses lay so there isn't stress on the plastic joints. It wasn't leaking after a short ride will see if it's leaked overnight.
I’m having same issue. Literally. I just figured out where the leak is, and it’s at the fitting on fire wall. I’m trying to find a hose or the assembly right now and finding everything is for 6.0 and I have 6.8 V10.
The tool helped with the easy to get to connectors behind the splash shield. still had to use fingers to get the connections at the firewall off. Also had to remove the evap thing on the ac box, the ac cover, cruise control cable, splash shield and the brackets at the ac.
Never did find replacement orings or clips for the hose I reused. They haven't leaked yet, knock on wood. But the issues I've had with this thing, I'm sure it'll let loose in the middle of a snow storm half way down one of my long steep driveways.
Thanks for the tips. When I realized what all needed to be removed to get to the fire wall fitting, I literally just went hone and started drinking beer!
What a giant pain in the *** job. I had to remove all kinds of stuff just to get to the connectors on firewall. Then the real fun began trying to remove the dumbest engineering idea ever in those connectors. I had to cut the hoses just so I could get to them. Then I ended up having to remove and replace the heater core bc I had no confidence the nipples were not all jacked up bc I had to destroy the connectors to get them off. Then I had to get 15ft of new hose and 4 connectors, some tees, so I could fabricate new assemblies. Took all damn day. I still have to go connect it all and route it tomorrow. Pretty annoyed and will probably put my EX up for sale. Had enough of domestic cars.
Same problem with the heater hose connection to the firewall.
One of the following Dorman products fits perfectly. (this is a 90-degree elbow connector)
Dorman 800-418 3/4 x 3/4
Doorman 800-419 3/4 x 5/8
I used a piece of blue silicon hose as well.
Do not remember which connector, but I think it was the 3/4 x 3/4 (I bought both )
Removing the old connector was difficult. Had helper, me, hold the heater core steady from the glove box side. (remove the glove box to access). Did this to make sure not to break the heater core while fighting to remove the old connector)
Then a battle to remove the connector from the firewall. (2 man job for this little connector!)
This was about a year or so ago. Worked out perfectly.
Sorry for the delay. Haven't had a chance to get to it plus I was still working on the sticking brake slides again.
I used the old hose from the feed to the heater shut off valve. Hope it helps
