EXT to Single Cab Conversion
EXT to Single Cab Conversion
My truck has an EXT Cab/Long Bed and I want to turn it into a Single Cab/Custom Flat Bed. I want to keep my original cab and cut the excess off and weld it, would cab bracing be necessary? Is there any information that I should know? Thank you (I know buying a new truck would be easier)
The fact that you are asking for advice about a job like this is evidence enough of the hack job that'll be on marketplace before long.
You know what, hack away. This can only increase the value of my spotless regular cab.

fool, you are unaware of the abilities I’ve harnessed. I’m unstoppable, your response is evidence enough that you don’t have the ***** to complete a job to this degree. Checkmate B)
I have the intelligence to just purchase the right truck in good condition so I dont have to cut and hack anything. Good luck with frankentruck. Dont forget to post pictures of your journey.

Then why'd you ask? The tome and work to make a Super Cab a regular cab is not worth the effort. Even then, you would need to buy a regular cab to section the back off. Why not just use the entire donor cab?
Return to the world you live in and use your superpowers. Then come back and triumphantly post pictures of your custom coachwork.
The easiest and most cost effective way to do it would be to buy a regular cab flatbed truck. The easiest way with the best outcome for the truck you already have is to find an 80-97 cab and use the front sheetmetal, doors and most of the interior from your truck. If you find a 92+ cab, with a good interior that would be even better.
Do you plan to have a 9.5-10' flatbed? Or do you want to hack the frame for an 8' bed?

That's a good ****ing question. I say let the guy do what he wants. No reason to fire shots back at something he wants to do. I think just getting a regular cab would be easier and if you want a super long flatbed go for it. If you just want an 8 foot flatbed and regular cab just get another truck and that'll be saving you money in the end. Half these trucks have already been hacked. They have become anything from bone stock to a full on off-road beast. Kind of too late to save these things now. They're either rusting away or wrecked or brand new, you name it, it's probably been done. That's my 2 cents. Good luck to ya!

I don't know exactly what that would entail but it would be in the ball park of a rotisserie like is used on body off restorations.
Think in terms of the walls of a house. The interior sheet rock and exterior plywood are structural, so the framing keeps its shape.
Sheet metal flex is an issue. it's beyond my skills.

If you're going to attempt this, you want to have some kind of jig in place to hold the original shape of the cab.

a lot of measuring and photoshop/drawing will be a must to get it right, but it’s possible in my brain.
