Hello folks.
I have a 1990 f150 302 lariat with a manual box.
I would like to convert to a 3 g alternator.
I saw 2 today at the wreckers
I read a ton of stuff but an still a bit lost
the wide eared one came from a 94 3.8 Taurus and has theceay threaded.
the slimmer ear came from a 3 liter 96 windstar and the ear is unthreaded.
I brought home the windstar alternator.
but have the ability to go back and switch at no cost.
I really wanted the small case 95a as my truck is bone stock with no extra electrical draw.
I'm sure 95 amps would easily be sufficient.
anyway I got these ..so might need to fatten the wires ...
I just want to know if ingotvthe right one for my 90 f150 302 ..thank you in advance..Roy in Vancouver
I think those work. I don’t remember though I think those cars were on the list. I have an 88 302. And the 95 mustang 5.0 130a fit after I took the grinder to the bracket. No reclocking the alternator, or any of that just the new bolt on top, new wiring, and grinder to the alternator bracket. On my profile I have a thread “not charging” that I went through this. A lot of its back and forth questions I had so you could probably skip some of it but may help you.
I think either will work. I just did this upgrade to my F150 last week, but I went with the kit from LMR because it included all the wiring and the fuse you’ll need. Your going to have to grind the bracket down with a dremel or a burr or angle grinder regardless I think…

the one from the taurus regardless of the fitment has a superior regulator if it is a stock one.
ha ha I wish I knew that yesterday ..it’s about a 40 minute drive I have the receipt and was told I could go back and swap if I needed to?
but thinking about it either one of these should be a big improvement over my stock 2 g alternator right?
Yes, the taurus one if its OEM has a soft start regulator which limits belt squeal and makes cranking a bit easier. The 3g will be a big improvement anyway so you are good. The regulator can be bought new and put on any 3g alternator too
